Toyota has introduced its first fully electric SUV BZ4X in American and Japanese markets. The vehicle is the first model of the brand’s new Beyond Zero (BZ) lineup and is considered to be the beginning of Toyota’s new electric mobility strategy. It will compete with popular electric SUVs like Hyundai IonIQ 5 and Kia EV6.
Style and platform
The BZ4X has been developed in partnership with Toyota and Subaru and is designed on the E-TNGA platform specially designed for electric vehicles. Its exterior comes with futuristic and sharp design elements, showing this car to modern and next generation technology. Talking about size, this SUV is a bit longer and wide than Toyota Rav4. It has a 15 cm long wheelbase and 5 mm more width, which gives a lot of space inside.
Performance and Driving Options
The BZ4X has been introduced in two drive systems-front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). The FWD version provides the strength of 201 horsepower, while the AWD variant offers up to 214 horsepower. The FWD model catches the speed of 0 to 100 km/h in about 7 seconds, while the AWD version completes the same sprint in 6.5 seconds.
Range and charging
The FWD model’s estimated driving range in Japan is stated to be up to 559 km, while the AWD version can run up to 540 km in charge once. Talking about charging, BZ4X has 120V and 240V outlets as well as DC fast charging facility. Its 6.6 kw onboard charger can make full charge at home or public station in about 9 hours through level 2 charger.
Interior and Tech Features
BZ4X’s cabin is premium and functional. Its 12.3 -inch touchscreen infotainment system provides integration of wireless Apple Carplay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa. It also has features like smartphone charging, USB-C and USB-A ports, and built-in 4G modem, which can connect five devices.
Toyota has installed JBL’s 9-Spiker Sound System in it, which comes with 800W amplifier and 9-inch subwofer. In addition, the thickness of the windshield has also been increased to make the driving experience calm and smooth, so that road noise can be reduced.
Digital and smart connectivity
The BZ4X has the first time digital facility, which the owners can share with the family or friends through their smartphones. This makes the access of the car easier, especially when the vehicle owner is not present.

Toyota hopes that the company will sell 5,000 units in the first year of launching BZ4X. This electric SUV is being constructed at the Toyota plant in Japan.
